Krista Ramsey Introduction Activity

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/columnists/krista-ramsey/2014/02/15/krista-locking-into-the-magic-of-legos/5521245/

This column was about how Legos are a very popular toy in homes today. It also says that the legos are a better alternatives for kids than sitting on the computer or playing video games. Putting together the lego sets helps kids learn how to problem solve and learn how to follow directions.

“Everything is possible here. Because this is not just the World According to Legos, this is the World According to You.”  This quote shows the reader what the legos are all about. It shows the impact it has on the kids and how they use legos to improve there imagination. Legos let kids build and create whatever they want, the option is up to them. Some syntax in this quote is how it repeats itself to show the reader that that is important and is a main point. Also the first sentance is short and gets to the point quickly and gets the point across. This helps the reader understand what is being said.

Ramsey’s writing style is chopped up into small paragraphs or sentences. For example “Along, almost invariably, with a bright yellow bag of purchased Lego products.” this is just one paragraph in this column.

What is your personal experience with the legos?
Where do you come up with your ideas?
How do yo get your voice across in your writing?

Important Quote

The most important quote so far comes from chapter 5, “Shadow of Death”. In chapter 5 it says,  “Again, Colton was unresponsive, almost lifeless.” This quote is showing how close to death Colton is. It explains the title of the chapter, and it ties into the rest of the chapters. Before chapter 5, the chapters were all about how sick Colton was and the events leading up to him going to the hospital. Once you hit chapter 5 and this quote, you realize just how sick he really is. It also leads into the next couple chapters too. In the next chapters it is all about Colton in the hospital and all the doctors trying to help him. This quote is important to the overall plot of the book because as far as I can see it is the turning point in the book. It is when the family finally figures out what is wrong with him, it is when he starts to get better, and it changes the rest of the plot. When Colton is this close to death he goes through an out of body experience where he visits heaven. (Hints the name Heaven is For Real.) This is what the whole end of the story is about. How his family and his friends try and figure out what heaven looks like, who's there, and why this happened to him. Below is a picture from the movie that was created based off of the book. It shows Colton in his hopital bed who looks miserable, pitiful, and (as the title of the chapter says) near-death-looking.  I believe the picture shows you how bad it really was for Colton and gives a visual to keep in your head.
